Gold Digger – Kanye West
In the video Gold digger that features Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, there is practically no use of props. The only real use of props I could definitively identify would be the moments where a woman is filmed to be putting on make up, which is then later then followed by clips various women posing on the front cover of multiple magazines as pin- up models, before the scenes where Kanye West and Jaimie Fox dance with the women.
The genre of this song would be Hip-Hop
For this video, directed by Hype Williams, you can tell this has been shot in a studio, due to the ombre backgrounds and bright even lighting, as well as there being little to no scenary. For the scenes that involve women dancing on the cover of a magazine, that would also be shot in a studio setting, as the post production editing would be tricky with natural lighting to achieve the right effect. This video was definitely lip-synched.
In my opinion, you can tell this song is hip-hop as it features rap with an electronic sounding backing music. This track features a mish-mash of hand-claps and scratches formed to create a ‘bouncy’ beat.

Big Poppa – The Notorious B.I.G
In this music video by Biggie Smalls, the opening scene begins with him siting on a sofa at a restaurant or a bar or club, with women either side of him, lip synching along to the song followed by various clips of people dancing and putting on make up. The use of props such as alcoholic drinks and various bar features appear throughout the music video.
This genre would fall under the category of Rap , or more specifically Gangsta Rap, which is a genre commonly associated with Hip-Hop.
In my opinion, the lighting in this video would be a mixture of over head lighting provided by the bar or club with some studio lighting as well to light up specific areas in a certain way. In one scene you see Biggie sitting down, the corners and edges of the screen dark and unlit, with a subtle spotlight on Biggie to draw attention and gain focus from the audience on whose singing.
For the introduction of this song, it immediately opens with a smooth base line sound, accompanied by a high pitch scratching or squeaking sound that carries on through out the entirety of the video. The beginning of the song is led by a few words from Biggie himself, only starting rapping around 30 seconds ino the song.

Garden- SZA
In this music video, SZA is seen on a black sand beach in shallow water, as well as jungle type area that features hanging vines and tons of greenery, in which she interacts with another musician Donald Glover. Towards the end of the video SZA is seen talking to this elderly woman surrounded by many exotic flowers and plants, who we establish is her mother. Although there was no real use of props, the rocks that she sat on and the vines hanging could be classed as props technically.
The genre of this music video would be R&B but could also fall under the genre of Neo Soul, through further research.
For this Music Video, he lighting would have to be a mixture of natural and artificial, using natural lighting in the beginning as the light shines through the entrance of the cave. In the scenes where we see SZA surrounded by greenery and walking through the caves, they would have had to have the additional use of studio lighting to enhance the highlights on her face. I believe that in the scenes where they used natural lighting, they probably used a sun reflector to achieve the right effect.
The introduction of this music video opens with some soft calming tidal sounds, alike Big Poppa, SZA begins singing at around 30 seconds into the video, backed by a short deep sound that is carried through the song in different tones and is sometimes elongated. At the end of he song you hear SZA’s mother, who is giving SZA life advice.
